I spoke with John, a Rite Aid Regional Manager, about an experience I had in one of his stores last week.
It had to do with the Buy One Get One Free Mars candy bar sale. The store had Mars candy bars on sale Buy one at $.88 and get one FREE. I also had coupons from the Sunday newspaper for the same that were also Buy One Get One Free with a maximum value of $.85. There was no limit in the ad or in the store on how many you could buy. I had 16 coupons, therefore planned to buy 32 candy bars and pay $.03 x 16 = $.48!
If I had walked in the store and bought these with cash, I would have bought two candy bars and paid $.88. Since I had these coupons, the manufacturer was paying $.85 and I was paying $.03.
The Shift Supervisor was not about to let me leave the store with two candy bars for $.03. I asked to see the coupon policy and she disappeared for 15 minutes and came back without it but had an opinion from another store manager that this could not be done. grrrr. Now I was late for another appointment.
I attempted to explain how it works but she refused to even listen.
John's call was in response to my call on Thursday.
He immediately agreed with me and said that I was right! He didn't understand why the Shift Supervisor in that store dealt with me the way she did. He did say that he was on vacation so she obviously couldn't get a hold of him. He assured me that he would explain this to her and there wouldn't be any further problems in that store.
While on the phone I told him about this blog and we chatted about couponing in general. He was very informative sharing with me that Rite Aid does allow stacking of the coupons in their ad with another manufacturer's coupon (not in their ad) on the same item, regardless of whether their ad coupon states "manufacturer's coupon".
I asked him to send me their coupon policy but he said he wasn't able to do that for now, although he understood that customers need to know how it works in their store. So, he said he would request through Corporate that Rite Aid's coupon policy be available on their website.
All-in-all a good ending to a bad experience.
Thank You, John!
(I did get my 32 candy bars at another Rite Aid!)
