Walgreens Coupon Policy
Walgreens Customer Service: 1-800-925-4733
Walgreens sale ad runs from Sunday to Saturday each week.
Manufacturer Coupons: Walgreens accepts manufacturer coupons. Walgreens does not accept expired coupons. Walgreens does not double any coupons and they do accept internet printable coupons.
Store Coupons: Walgreens will offer store coupons that can be found in the weekly ad and in the store within a booklet that can generally be found by the weekly ad in the front of the store called the EasySaver Catalog. Usually EasySaver coupons are “cents off” type coupons, for example, $1 off two Campbell’s Soups. Usually in-ad coupons change the price of the item, for example, Mountain Spring Water $3.49. Often these coupons have limits written on them, but it is up to the store to enforce these limits (some do and some do not).
Walgreens allows stacking of the store coupons and manufacturer coupons. For example, if you have a manufacturer coupon for $1 off juice (from the newspaper or printable) and you have a $.50/1 Walgreens coupon, you can buy one bottle of juice (pay attention to any other requirements such as bottle size or flavor) and receive $1.50 off that bottle.
Register Rewards: Register Rewards (commonly called RR for short) are a special Catalina that prints out only at Walgreens. Usually the deals will be advertised in the weekly ad. For example, buy one “Lysol Healthy Touch Hand Soap System for $11.99 and receive a $4 Register Reward Good on your Next Purchase.” You can only receive one identical reward per transaction. If you want to buy more that one Lysol Soap System you must buy them separately, you can do this on the same trip to the store.
You can use a store and manufacturer coupon on this item and still receive the RR. Note where the ad says “Coupon savings in most Sunday papers.”
If you use the $4 RR you received from the first Lysol Soap System to buy a second Lysol Soap System, you will not receive another $4 RR. This is the way Walgreens system is set up, you cannot “roll” the RRs, but you can “cross” them. If you have a $3 RR from a deal that you have already done (not the Lysol Soap System) you can use that RR on the Lysol Soap System and still receive the $4 RR back.
Total Number of Coupons: An interesting “catch” to shopping with coupons at Walgreens is you cannot have more coupons than you have items. If you are buying five bottles of Dawn at $.99 each (total $4.95) you cannot use five $.25 manufacturer coupons and one $3 RR. The RR “counts” as a manufacturer coupon, therefore you must throw something in (a “filler” item). Our favorite filler items include caramel candies ($.33), individual bandages ($.10) and holiday clearance (pencils for $.05). Filler items will vary from store to store.
Buy 1 Get 1 Free Sales: You can use two coupons on this type of sale, as long as both coupons are off of one item. If Nature’s Finest Vitamins are B1G1 Free, you can use two $1/1 manufacturer coupons and two $1/1 Walgreens coupons. If you have a $1/2 coupon, you can use that coupon on two bottles. They will not ring up half price (like at Giant Eagle). You must buy two to get the deal.
The Cosmetics Counter: This is my *favorite* place to check out. The lines are usually shorter and the cashier often has some great coupons hidden back there. Just ask!
Overage: Overage will not be given at Walgreens, however you can receive an item for free if the coupon value exceeds the price of an item. Walgreens coupon policy states: “The coupon amount must be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.”

Register Rewards ~ These are coupons that print from a machine by the register after you've made qualifying purchases. Register Rewards may be used to purchase almost anything else in the store. There are a few exclusions such as cigarettes, gift cards, alcohol, phone cards, stamps, etc.)

If you're buying more than one and using additional coupons, to reduce your out of pocket expense you could use the Register Reward from the previous purchase to purchase the next one. However, a Register Reward will not print from the transaction in which a Register Reward is used to pay for the same product for which it would typically print out.
For example, I purchased 4 boxes of these tabs in 4 separate transactions. The first one I paid $1.24 + tax and received a $1.50 RR. The 2nd transaction I added in a small pack of M&M's that were on sale for $.44 to my transaction so there wouldn't be overage ($.26). My transaction came to $4.12 with tax. I used my $2.25/1 coupon + $1.50 Register Reward from the 1st transaction so my total for this one came to $.37. I did not receive a Register Reward on this 2nd transaction but that was fine with me because my goal was to keep my out of pocket expenses down. I repeated all of this again on transactions 3 & 4. My total out of pocket expense was $2.36 for four boxes of Electrasol tabs and two packs of M&M minis. That was an average of $.40/each!
Now I could've just paid for each box (separate transactions) with cash & coupon and my final totals would've been this:
$1.43 x 4 = $5.72 out of pocket (no M&M's to make up the overage)
Received $6.00 in Register Rewards
Like making $.18 on the deal.
It's up to you how you do these transactions. Register Rewards will not "roll" when using one to pay for another transaction if you're buying more of the same item. My goal was to keep my out of pocket expenses down and that's what I did.
